Education
In Cameroon, children attend two years of Kindergarten (possibly after 2 years of nursery) and then another 6 years of primary school, which is compulsory. This is followed by secondary school (5 years), high school (2 years), and tertiary (University). At present all our children attend the local schools at the primary or secondary level. The secondary level often leads straight to a trade and can be considered trade school.
Our goal is that our young children will be educated in the fundamentals – developing a solid foundation of knowledge and skills which will enable them to mature into successful and productive members of society. The older children will receive training in things like carpentry, masonry, sewing, farming, computer skills, nursing, hairdressing, fine arts, and other skills they can use to find employment or start their own small business and improve their communities. The educational classes will not only provide children with the skills to succeed in life, but they will also foster self-confidence and a feeling of self-worth and value in each child.
Finally, each child will have the opportunity to study the Bible so that they may live their lives in the knowledge that they are loved.
Our vision includes our own school as the local schools lack excellence. Though our children attend the local schools at this point, the major part of education and progress seems to happen at Manjo Children’s Home after school through the help of our dedicated staff. We would like to provide a better education to them and the children of the surrounding area.
The estimated cost to build the entire primary school, completely with all fittings, like tables, chairs and blackboards is about $120,000. We can start building as soon as we have funds towards the school and the weather conditions are right.
The buildings would look like those shown below.
